Missing Sodus
By Melissa White

We took my son back to Buffalo on Saturday because of the weather forecasts. We were afraid to wait. Buffalo is cold, no doubt about it! And I found that you don't talk about the weather there to people who live there. They get defensive. My son slid his card and he couldn't get in. Finally, we found a phone number to call and, at first, they weren't going to let him in until the next day at noon. A car filled with his groceries and, after driving for two hours, storm warnings... not sure coming back the next day was an option. Fortunately, they let him in (and, yes, the storm did come).

So many celebrations coming soon... the Super Bowl and, of course, don't forget Valentine's Day. Put up some streamers, get some paper plates, have a theme and voila! You have fun with your whole family.

From the Sodus Library:

Knitting Fun - The ladies obviously had a great time at their first knitting class with Sarah Harper. They will be meeting for the next three Fridays at 10 a.m. Stop by and find out how you can join in the fun.

On Thursday, January 18, in the Library's meeting room, they had a meeting to plan the February Chocolate Sale.

More fun things do do during the month of January at the Library:

  • January 19 - Knitting Class 2, 10 a.m.-noon
  • January 22 - Rock Painting Class (Shirley Patchett), 10 a.m.-noon
  • January 22 - Pre-school Story Hour, 10:30-11:30 a.m.
  • January 26 - Knitting Class 3, 10 a.m.-noon
  • January 29 - Rock Painting Class 2, 10 a.m.-noon
  • January 29 - Preschool Story Hour, 10:30-11:30 a.m.

Rhonda Vincent Concert: Rhonda Vincent will visit Sodus on March 3 with a concert from 7-9 at the Sodus High School.

We will check back to see if there is more information.

Coming in February:

February 11: Sunday, 1 to 6 p.m. is 'Chili Blues Family Fest' sponsored by the Great Sodus Bay Association. Location at Papa Joe's in Sodus Point.

Saturday, February 10: 2nd Annual Gala Snowflake Ball Formal dinner (black tie optional) to benefit the animals of Cracker Box Palace Farm Animal Haven. For more information, call 315.926.1410 or 315.483.0845.

Diane Phillips is all excited. Her son, Michael Scalzo, played an EMT on the 'Untold Tales of the ER.' He had a pretty big part and, I must say, he is cute.

The kids are all excited with midterms coming. Well, it's not the tests they are excited about. It's the time off they have on those days they don't have tests, or the half days after the tests are done.

January birthdays:

Oscar's was the 13th but, since he had the dog stomach flu, we'll celebrate this weekend.

Jim Malone is getting older, too. His birthday is January 28. I am sure he will be eating a cake that Ruth will make special just for him, Or will they be going over to his daughter Michelle's house to celebrate?

Stay warm and have fun with your families. Saturday afternoons are great for the kids storytime on the comfy couch and then movies to follow up. The Sodus library has lots of great new books to pick up just for the occassion.

For the Super Bowl, there are lots of recipes. Sometimes the stores have football cakes. Get some napkins and paper plates and all of the celebration can take your mind off how cold it is outside for a little while.

Is it to early to think Spring?
