Citizen input needed for Newark search

Dr. Bill Silky, a professor of education at SUNY Oswego - involved for 18 years in helping school districts find superintendents - has been retained to provide some assistance to the Newark Board of Education in its process of finding a replacement for Superintendent Robert Christmann.

Christmann, school superintendent here for 17 years and a district employee for 21 years, is expected to begin his work as superintendent in the Grand Island Central School District February 5.

Silky, who is being paid $1,000, will be meeting January 31 with groups of students, teachers, parents and various community members to help develop a profile of what characteristics they would like to see in a new school superintendent. He will also be meeting with the Board of Education that day to receive its input for the profile and will share information gleaned from meetings with the other groups.

Information on the times of each meeting will be announced soon so that people who want to participant can come to the meeting location at the appropriate times.

Anyone with questions should call Board of Education President Roberta Colacino at 331.5676 or e-mail her at rcolacino2@newark.k12.ny.us
