Are you watching the Apprentice or hearing all about Donald Trump in the news? Years ago, when we went to New York City, we went inside of Trump Towers. It is absolutely beautiful.

What's the Sodus Chamber been up to?

A. Sodus Library results from Community Planning Commmitee are to focus on the top three areas: Lifelong Learning, Current Topics and Titles, and Cultural Awareness. Future information will be available as the Library board approves projects.

B. Community Christmas Party at Nick's Party House on 12/7 had 34 attend. Steve Heald did another great job on a trivia test. Mary Jane won after a three-way tie with Linda Graffius and Dick Mumby. Many thanks to WCTA for the tote filled with wonderful stuff for first place winner. Many thanks to Patty Paprocki for setting it up. A thank you note was recevied from the Victum Resource Center of the Finger Lakes for the Christmas donations. Thanks to Patty Paprocki and Julie Gelina for transporting them to the center.

C. Community Holiday Fireworks at Wallington Fire Dept.: The Chamber raised about $300 at the October Chicken BBQ and collected another $54 in the collection cans. The Fireworks were a huge success again and well received by the community.

D. Santa came to Sodus with the help of Sodus Beautification Committee and Chamber. Over 120 kids and 200 adults gathered in the park for gifts, hot chocolate and cookies. It was a huge success.

Next meeting is Mar. 1 at WCTA; open to public. Presentation by two FLCC students from Sodus (Jonathan Witherhead/Jamie Beckens). Topic is Sodus Community Personality/Tourism Planning. Will start at 7 p.m. and have desserts available.

Sodus Free Library news:

The Newbery and Caldecott Medals were announced, with 'The Higher Power of Lucky' by Susan Patron, winning the Newbery, and David Wiesner's 'Flotsam' winning the Caldecott. We have the Patron title on order, and Wiesner's book is here on display. Call or stop by the Library to put any books on hold.

Looking for a great book to share with a favorite young child or teen? Check out the list at the Bulletin Board of the Center for Children's Books for titles earning their 2006 Blue Ribbons. There are some terrific books on the list, including picture books, fiction, and non-fiction. Let us know which titles you'd like to read, and we'll help you place an OWWL Hold on them.

The Super Bowl is coming up quickly The Bears vs the Colts. (Now, which one has the best looking Quarterback? Not the usual way to pick, but my teams haven't lost, so there must be something to it. Right?)

What is the Super Bowl without the food?!

I myself, am thinking spring and, hopefully, it gets here before the flu season gets us. We only have to stay healthy for a few weeks longer.

Trying to think of something fun to do with your older kids and their friends? How about starting a reading club for them? They could get some of their friends together and, if you'd like, invite their moms to participate as well. Carol Garland at the Sodus Library would be more than happy to help you pick a book for the month to read. Everyone in the group has the same book and you can meet once or twice a month to discuss what you are reading and what everyone thinks. Have theme months: in the summer you could meet on the beach, in B. Foreman Park, or Casey Park - anywhere you can put down a blanket, you can read and discuss your book.

A fun place to spend time would be on the Sodus Library comfy couch in front of the fireplace. I'm sure Carol would be glad to help you out with the perfect place to spend some reading time. And don't forget the porch at the Library. Then for afterward, choose a place to get a cup of ice tea or (in the winter) cocoa.

If you are really energetic, the little kids like to hang out and hear stories, as well. Something fun and educational to do with your kids on a Sunday afternoon.

Have a great week and enjoy each other's company.
