'Go Red' this Friday

Did you know that heart disease is the number 1 killer of women over 25, claiming the lives of around 480,000 women annually; but only 13 percent of women even view heart disease as a health threat.

At the current rate, almost one out of every three women in the U.S. will die from cardiovascular disease. That's more than the next four causes of death in women combined. And, cardiovascular disease is a serious health threat for men, also. The good news is that heart disease is largely preventable.

To raise awareness and to help give women the power to prevent heart disease by reducing their risk factors (and those of their men), Newark-Wayne Community Hospital is inviting community members to participate in their Go Red activities beginning at 8 a.m. in the main lobby on Friday, Feb. 2.

To participate, please WEAR RED and come to the hospital for a mini-heart fair including: cholesterol screening (8-10 a.m.), blood pressure screening (8 to noon), information on heart disease, Ask a Dietitian (9 to noon), FREE American Heart Association Go Red pins and more!

The event will culminate with a group photo in the lobby at noon of staff and visitors wearing red that day! You may purchase the special heart healthy Red lunch (pasta with red sauce and a special red dessert) in the hospital cafeteria from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

The event is being sponsored by Cardiac Services and the Cardiac Rehabilitation Department at Newark-Wayne.
