Award for Newark Librarian
In 1989, the Ray Murray Award was created to honor this librarian who opened the door for the creation of the annual library assistants conference, which laid the groundwork for NYSLAA (New York State Library Assistants Association). In nominating Dawson for the award, Peg Pelletier, a 14-year employee of the Newark Public Library, as well as staff members Carol Rosenthal and Julie Howard, noted Dawson's support and encouragement for library staff to attended training sessions, and her continuing respect for the opinions and suggestions of employees. NYSLAA thanked Dawson for her efforts to recognize the importance of professional growth for library assistants.
