Wolcott Bicentennial starts this week Happy birthday Old Town of Wolcott (Butler, Huron, Rose and Wolcott) 200th anniversary 1807-2007 Wolcott's major Bicentennial events will take place between July 12 and 15. Mark your calendars and plan to attend the following events. July 12 will feature the Kiddie and Dress Your Pet Parade with the theme Past Meets the Present. Those under the age of 12 should meet at 6 p.m. in the Village Parking lot near Jefferson Street. The Parade will go down Main Street and end in the Wolcott Village Park where prizes and ice cream will be awarded. Following the Kiddie Parade, the dedication of the Rotary Club sponsored Asbury Park clock will take place on Main Street. On Friday, July 13, a Ping Pong Drop for kids 12 and under will take place at 5 p.m. on the North Rose-Wolcott Middle School ball field. At 6 p.m. canoe races between the scouts and area Fire Departments will be held on the Wolcott Mill Pond. At 10 p.m. All Aerial Fire works will be held on the Wolcott Elks field. Saturday, July 14 will begin with a Living History Day in the Wolcott Village Park starting at 9 a.m. Among the exhibitors will be Hand Painting on glass, Tinsmith, Candle Making, Quilting Bee, Corn Husk Dolls, Old Fashioned Bonnets, Buffalo soldiers, Train rides for kids, Wagon rides with Clydesdale horses around the village, Treadle sewing machines, Historic artwork, Civil War display, Rug Hooking, Antique Knitting machine, Hands on children's activities, Children's games. Also there will be a Jonathan Melvin (first Wolcott settler) Post Office with Bicentennial stamp cancellation imprint available. Food concessions available that day will include fried dough, Lemonade, cookies, ice cream social, musical cake walk, popcorn, hot dogs, sausage sandwiches, cotton candy, doughnuts, coffee, soda, an old- fashioned bake sale, sandwiches and chicken barbecue. Bandstand entertainment during the day will include the Community Band and the East Avenue Dance group. At 6:30 p.m. the Grand Historical Parade will begin with the route from the Wolcott Fire Hall, down Main Street, on to Jefferson, right on Washington Street to the Middle School parking lot. There will be some 25 floats (many of these will be special Era floats) with music. The Savannah Cellar Savers will be in the parade and will perform in the Wolcott Village park between the two parades. At 9 p.m. the Historical Light Parade (a Wayne County special) will take place. This route for the floats and fire trucks will proceed north on New Hartford Street, right on Washington, left on Jefferson, left on to Main Street, and straight out on West Main to the Fire Hall. These floats will have lights and era or other special music. If there are other groups interested in entering the parade, call Dic Lasher at 587.9794. Sunday, July 15, the Jeff Sawyer concert will take place in the Village Park Bandstand between 3 and 5 p.m. Bring your lawn chairs and enjoy. Copyright
