Potter fun in Marion July 21, Marion Public Library celebrated the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J. K. Rowling. Guests entered the magical world of Harry Potter and were greeted by Krittr Kris and her large feathered friends. Kris Steffen, a wildlife educator, brought a great horned owl, a screech owl and a vulture to the Open House. She offered information about the birds and their habitat while visitors got their first glimpse of the stained glass windows depicting the four houses at Hogwart's School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The Community Room was transformed into a banquet hall complete with a buffet that included: Cockroach Clusters (chocolate covered Chinese noodles), Pumpkin Juice (punch), Dragon Alley Donuts & Enchanted Puffballs (donut holes), Wizard Hats & Owls (cookies) and our famous Bright Eyed and Bushy Tailed Brew (coffee). Visitors signed our official guest book, adding their name along with other witches and wizards. Some tested their skill at the Bertie Bott's Beans game, guessing the various jelly bean flavors. Guests were also given the chance to enter a raffle for chocolate frogs and a copy of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Other activities included coloring, face painting and the construction of edible magic wands. The creation of Harry's world was a group effort involving library staff and some talented volunteers including: Diana Smith; Amanda, Morgan and Madeline Ebert; Anne Gigliotti; Darren Griffith-Liese; Thomas Downer; Sam Krocke and Ian Metcalfe. Such excitement over a book! Whether you're are a fan or not, J. K. Rowling has certainly enchanted a new generation of readers.
