On May 22, I visited the lilac garden on Goossen Road in Marion. Earl and Rosemary Scharles have 160 hybrid lilac bushes of every hue, doubles and singles, early and late varieties. Rosemary sent me home with a huge bouquet of the lovely blooms.

One year of operation for the used clothing drop-off box at St. Gregory's: we handled 13 tons of usable clothing which has been shipped for use in the U.S. and Third World Countries, and the church received $1033 for this effort. Thank you to all parishoners and friends who donated clothes and for their stewardship of time to maintain the box.

Renovations of the kitchen at 'Jennie's House' by the Historic Association have been curtailed by the Marion Town Board's plans. A committee will do some basic cleaning and set up the antique stove before the showing on Marion's Fall Festival Day on September 8.

Chicken BBQ at Marion Masonic Temple, Saturday, June 9, at 3:30 until gone. Adults $7 and children $4; pick up before 4:30.

The Hen House Country Store, 6165 Richardson Rd., Williamson will celebrate their 10th Season on June 1 & 2. There will be refreshments and door prizes. Regular hours throughout the summer will be June-August, Wednesday-Saturday 10 to 5.

June 1, the K-4 Vocal Concert will start at 9:30 a.m. at Marion Elementary School.

May 24, 1912- During the past week, beautiful and costly memorial windows have been placed in the Presbyterian Church, which is nearing completion. The large front window is the gift of Calvin Rice of Chicago, in memory of his parents. It bears the inscriptions: 'Lyman Rice, 1811-1860,' and 'Mary A. Rice, 1820-1904.'
