Sale is fundraiser for Haak Scholarship Newark Middle school pupils and staff will hold a huge garage sale in the school cafeteria from 9 to 3 on Saturday, June 9, to raise funds for the Andy Haak Memorial Scholarship. The sale will likely feature: books, toys, games, CDs, cassettes, records, videos, DVDs, small appliances, radios, clocks, cassette players, CD players, sports equipment, small furniture and baby and toddler items, but not clothing. This is the third year the garage sale is being held to raise money for the scholarship fund in Haaks memory. Haak, a beloved and respected eighth grade social studies teacher, died in 2004 after a battle with cancer. After his death, his family established the scholarship fund. In order to insure its continuance, Middle School students and staff decided three years ago to annually hold a garage sale. Haak loved them as well as auctions, estate and tag sales. Each year, one eighth grade boy and girl who most exemplifies qualities exhibited by Haak receive the award at the annual academic awards assembly. Afterward, their names will appear on a plaque with Haak's picture on, in the school foyer.
