Peppermint Pets contest in Lyons

Grab some ribbon, bows and peppermint candy or sew an outfit to dress your dog, cat, lizard or parrot for the upcoming Peppermint Pets Contest, sponsored by The Lyons Civic Club.

All varieties of pets are welcome to enter and the only restriction in costume design is that it be red and white and that pets cannot be hurt in the process of being a contestant. Publicly humiliating your pet is acceptable.

Here is the process for entering your pet in the contest:

After the pet is in costume, snap some pictures. Call Sharon Lubitow to register and send $1 and the pictures to Lyons Civic Club, Inc., 99 Broad Street, Lyons 14489. You may submit up to a maximum of three photos with your entry.

All entries must be postmarked by midnight, July 1, and should be accompanied by the entry fee ($1.00).

Winners will be notified after July 14. Entrants providing a self-addressed stamped envelope will have their photos returned after the final selection. Winning images will be held until the announcement of the winner.

All photographic prints should be no larger than 8x10 inches and clearly marked with the name and address of the entrant. Colored submissions are preferred.

Entries will be evaluated based on appeal, content and photographic skill. The decision of the judges is final. Prizes are $50, $25 and $15. In the event of a tie, duplicate prizes will be awarded.

Photos will be displayed at the Farmers Market, Dobbins Drug Store (William St.) and Sullivan Insurance Agency (36 Canal St.).
