Buy a 'Duck' ticket this weekend

The Newark Volunteer Fire Dept. is preparing for the Newark Rose Parade on July 21.

The Duck Race will follow the 1 p.m. parade.

Firefighters and Auxiliary members will operate a booth this weekend during the Newark Family Festival and will be selling Duck Race tickets for the main race and children's race.

Dick Colacino, event chairman, delivered 4000 plastic ducks, on which Don & Elaine will apply numbers to correspond with each ticket sold.

The successful Duck Race last year was the result of many firefighters and Newark businesses selling tickets. Don & Elaine Snow coordinated the Duck Race sales.

The event is being held on the Erie Canal and T. Spencer Knight Canal Park, with food, beverages, music and a spectacular fireworks display at 9:30 p.m.

Colacino said a Children's Duck Race (for kids one to six) will be held after the Main Race. The Children's Race is sponsored in part by Spinco Metal Products and Market Alternatives.

Their sponsorship is providing prizes: two bicycles, a super soaker water gun, two children's fishing poles, a Rock 'n' Roll Tricycle, an Auto Pitch Batting Trainer, a Fisher Price Fire Truck, and a stuffed Dalmatian Fire Fighter donated by Firemen's Auxiliary member Carol Bliss.

The Main Duck Race has had the prizes increased this year with a $1,000 first place, $500 second place, $250 third place, and 25 other gifts donated by the Newark Fire Dept. and Newark businesses.

Chief Steve Prinzi reports that parents purchasing Duck Race tickets at the Newark Family Festival will enable their kids receiving a free ride in the bucket of the Fire Dept.'s 'Tower 4,' the 100 ft. aerial platform.

Colacino is asking any Newark or Arcadia business wishing to financially support the Rose Parade festival to call 315.573.4067. There is still plenty of time to be in the parade, or to send a contribution to the Newark Volunteer Fire Dept.

Also available at the Fire Dept. booth this weekend are official Rose Parade 2007 Golf Shirts, Newark Fire Dept. T-shirts, golf shirts, and a limited supply of a 2007 Newark Fire Dept. DVD video.
