Marion woman competes in KY Terry Yonker and her Arabian horse, NN Rapture competed in the Pyramid Challenge held June 9, in Lexington, Kentucky. The pair earned an award in the Limited Distance division for completion of a 25-mile trek though the Kentucky Horse Park and surrounding countryside.
The course traversed beautiful Kentucky Bluegrass fields, which are actually green now but earn their name from the hue from its blue flowers that bloom in spring. The Kentucky Horse Park is a spectacular facility devoted to horses and will be host to the World Equestrian Games in 2010. The Pyramid Challenge is an endurance ride sponsored the American Endurance Ride conference (AERC) in conjunction with the Pyramid Society's Egyptian Event which features Arabian horses from across the country competing in performance, halter, dressage, and native costume. Terry and Rapture spend numerous hours training and conditioning for their long-distance riding competitions both on trail and in the dressage ring. Their bond and partnership has fostered the ability to travel and compete in parks throughout New England, Pennsylvania, New York, and the mid-Atlantic over the past four years. They have earned high point awards in Competitive Trail and Endurance riding from the Finger Lakes Arabian Association. Yonker owns Cobblestone Manor & Equine Centre in Marion.
