Marion Auxiliary prepares for auction

New officers of the Marion American Legion Post 1430 Auxiliary were installed at their annual picnic meeting on June 11. Those 2007-08 officers are President-Deborah Wyman, Vice President-Gina Southcott, 2nd Vice President-Donna Prentice, Secretary- Nancy Nevelizer, Treasurer-Kathy Weeks, Historian-Nancy Nevelizer, Chaplain-Pearl Weeks and Sgt.-at-arms-Amanda Verstreate.

Kathy Weeks and Deborah Wyman were named Delegates for the New York State American Legion Auxiliary convention and Amanda Verstreate will be alternate delegate. Secretary/Historian Nancy Nevelizer announced she would be delivering materials to Marion 3rd and 5th graders concerning flag and veteran education. Pledge of Allegiance comic books, bookmarks and rulers will be given each student in those grades.

A video depicting a young girl's education about Veterans Day and another entitled For Which It Stands that explains the significance, meaning, respect and care of our American flag will be given to the school for use in the classrooms. Vice President Gina Southcott, co-chairman for the 'Wounded Warrior' project flea market announced the event will be held on Saturday, June 30, 9 to 6.

An auction will begin at 1:30 and will feature donated items of all kinds including tools, furniture, sporting equipment and others. Proceeds from the auction and market space rental will go to the State Commander's project and will be presented at the state convention in Niagara Falls on July 20. Flea market rental spaces are still available as follows: a 10 x 10 Parking lot space is $10, 6 foot long indoor table space is $5 and a 10 x 20 lawn space is $15.00. Flea market rentals will go to the project, but all proceeds from sales at the flea market will go to the owner.

Auction and refreshment proceeds will be donated to the project as well. For more information about donating to the auction or renting flea market space is available by calling Gina Southcott at 315.576.6383 after 4 p.m. or by calling the American Legion post at 926.5571.

The Wounded Warrior project helps active soldiers who are wounded on the battlefield. They arrive at the hospital with only the clothes on their backs, and this program provides basic essentials to help make their stay and recovery more comfortable.
