Alloway Picnic planned For almost 85 years, residents and friends of Alloway have gathered during the summer for an annual picnic. The 2007 picnic will be held Sunday, July 8 at the home of Amelia Engels, 377 Water Street in Alloway. Bring a dish to pass and tableware. Beverage will be furnished. Picnic lunch will be served at 1 p.m. The Alloway award winners will be announced. These are made to graduating Lyons Central School seniors who live outside the village in memory of William Hess, an Alloway resident who lost his life in the Battle of the Bulge in December 1944. Alloway will participate in the Lyons Peppermint Days parade on Saturday July 14. Alloway princess, Cora Long, will ride in a small wagon. The Alloway banner will be carried by Ann-Megan Galbraith, behind which children will march. A 1960's Ford Mustang convertible, driven by Donald Brenner of Newark, will carry passengers, Amelia Engels, Alloway Commmunity Chairperson; Barbara Hawman, secretary; and Shelden King, reporter.
