Wayne Red Cross celebrates 90 years

On Friday, June 15, the Wayne County Chapter of the American Red Cross celebrated 90 years of helping the Wayne County community at its annual meeting and volunteer recognition event held at the Sodus Bay Heights Golf Club.

The Board of Directors elected the following officers for positions for the 2008 fiscal year:

  • Board Chair Tom Yale of Walworth
  • Vice Chair Barbara Harper of Savannah
  • Treasurer Donald Massecar of Fairport
  • Secretary Elinor Weldgen of Williamson
  • and at large members David Carr of Newark and David Johnson of Victor.

Elected to the board this year for a three-year term were:

  • Bill Boyd of Walworth, James Davis of Newark, Dr. Frederick Hicks DMD of Newark, and Robert & Barbara Kerr of Macedon.

Also at the event, the Red Cross presented three awards to the following individuals and companies:

  • David Stark of Ontario received the Disaster Volunteer of the Year award
  • Pamela Gardner of Fairport received the Robert (RAS) Bloomer Award for Board Excellence, and
  • Dwight Woody Seufert received the Harold Spies Volunteer of the Year award.

A special Tiffany Award was given to Chapter Office Manager Raquel Szenas-Baker. The Tiffany Award is the highest award that can be bestowed on a paid American Red Cross staff member.

Honorary Board member Vincent Craft from Palmyra received his 40-year service pin.
