Marion girls are champs

Pictured is the Marion Girls Varsity basketball team.

The members of the Marion team are Deanna Nortier, Brianne Raes, Nichole Clark, Ryan Iannello, Kendyl Smeatin, Samantha DeFisher, Tonya Iannello, Nicole DeFisher, Linda Goodridge, Alicia Crego, Leah Iannello, Kristina Schutt, Holly Adriaansen, and Olivia Suhr. The team is coached by Tom Nortier. The assistant coach is Lynn Frizelle. The JV coach is Richard Thomas.

The other picture is of the Class CCC All Tournament Team, left to right: Brianne Raes (Marion), Ryan Iannello (Marion), Samanth Cavallaro (East Rochester), Deanna Nortier MVP (Marion), Courtney Gray (Bishop Kearney), and Serena Moore (Bishop Kearney).

The pictures were taken at the Blue Cross Arena on March 1 after the girls Class CCC Sectional win over Bishop Kearney.

In the Quarterfinals on February 21 at Honeoye Falls-Lima, Marion beat Letchworth in overtime with a score of 43 - 38. In overtime, Brianne Raes scored all of Marions 7 points to help the team advance to the Semifinal round.

In the Semifinals held February 24 at Pittsford Sutherland, Marion beat East Rochester with a score of 53 - 45. Deanna Nortier led the team with 16 points.

On March 1, the Marion girls played in the Championship game of the Class CCC sectional round. They faced Bishop Kearney. The game was a hard fought battle between the two teams. The final score of the game was 46 - 36.

History was made with Marion's first Girls Varsity Sectional Championship win. Brianne Raes and Ryan Iannello were named to the All Tournament Team. Deanna Nortier was named MVP of the All Tournament Team.

As of March 1, the team record is now 23 - 0.
