Tracing the history of the calendar

The Wayne County Historical Society's 'History at Night' is Thursday, March 15 at 7.

The topic will be History of the Calendar: Beware the Ides of March with Museum Educator Erin Gardner.

Says Gardner: 'We use the calendar daily to tell us when our festivals and holidays begin and end, and when we reach that most important day of the workweek - Friday. The calendar also helps us to record history, to pinpoint and record exceptional dates. How many of us really know why February has 28 days and March 31 ... or why we now use the Gregorian calendar and not the Julian?'

Go back in time as Gardner traces the history of the calendar, giving insight to the Ides of March along with other fascinating, calendar-related stories.
