Missing Sodus Think SPRING! You did and it's almost here. Sounds like it's going to get cold this weekend with some snow, but we can enjoy the really nice weather when we get it. The week was wonderful - getting temperatures up to the 50s! Got rid of some of that dirty snow that is piled up all over the place. I hung up my spring flags and moved a couple of pots (just because I could get the pots pried from the frozen ground). Now to look for the first robin. Before, when I lived next to the woods, I could see them. I don't know about here. Don't forget to buy the corned beef and cabbage for St. Patty's Day and wear your green. I usually have to dig deep in my closet because I don't wear green, but this is a special occasion. From the Sodus Free Library: Congratulations to Mary and Ernie Piekunka, chosen as Sodus' 2006 Citizens of the Year! For information on this year's Citizen of the Year and Rotary Agri-Business Banquet, contact the Chamber at 315.398.8473. The Library and the Sodus Central School District are working together to offer beginning computer classes to adults. Three evening sessions will be offered on Wednesday evenings, March 14, 21, and 28 from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
Interact Club students will be offering a light soup & sandwich supper at 5:30 each evening for a $3 fee; there is no charge for the classes. Reservations are required for the classes and for the optional supper. Call or stop by the Library to sign up now! With grant funding, and in partnership with Wayne County libraries, Rural Opportunities Inc. is offering free information sessions to help low-income families with their tax forms. The next session is Saturday, March 31, from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. For more information on eligibility and the content of these clinics, call ROI at 1.800.888.6770, ext. 342 or ext. 706. This week has been the 95th anniversary of Girl Scouting in the United States - Girl Scout Week, March 11-17. The Sodus/Sodus Point Girl Scouts are conducting a food drive to benefit The Backpack Buddies Program. The scouts will be out tomorrow collecting donations. If you didn't get a blue door hanger last Saturday & would like to contribute, there's a booth Paton's Marketplace tomorrow from 10 to 1. Suggested food items are: peanut butter & jelly in plastic jars, granola bars, microwaveable pasta/soup/stew bowls, fruit cups, and individually wrapped snacks, cookies, or bags chips. If you would like more information about the Sodus/Sodus Point Girl Scout Food Drive, please contact Paula Torres, 483.4261. Some fun information for you ... There are a lot of Irish stories at the libraries, as well as Irish movies to explore. Have fun this St. Patty's day whatever way you decide to spend it. And when the nice weather comes back, be sure to take advantage of it. We have waited through a hard and cold winter so, when the sun is shining and the temperatures are warmer, go out with the kids and family. Take a walk and look for signs of spring (but, remember, my mom is supposed to see the first robin). Have a wonderful week. And let me know if any leprechauns stop in for a visit. (Al Dobbin called the neighbor kids leprechauns. One of these days, one will have to stop by and give him some chocolate chip cookies.) Copyright
