Habitat house dedication is Sunday Habitat for Humanity of Wayne County is announcing a home dedication in Newark on Sunday, March 18 at 2 p.m. The new home is located on East Maple Avenue, just east of Vienna St. (in the neighborhood of the former Newark Developmental Center campus and East Newark Cemetery). Established in 1988, this represents the 23rd build for this affiliate, and it is the new home for the Drave family: Deborah, Donald, Shelby and Abby. Family Partners, the Kouwes of Newark, have mentored the first-time homeowners by helping them prepare for the responsibilities of home ownership, and will help smooth the transition once they are in their new home. Habitat for Humanity is an ecumenical Christian housing ministry dedicated to assisting families in need of simple, decent housing. This is accomplished through a partnership with the selected family, who will provide some of the labor or sweat equity needed to build their home. Upon completion, the house is sold to the family at no interest and no profit with a 30 year mortgage. These house payments are then applied towards building future Habitat homes. The March 18 activities will include a short program followed by an opportunity to meet the Drave family and volunteer members of the Wayne County Habitat affiliate.
