Newark vote results pending Village trustees Chris Avery and Kurt Werts did not have to campaign this year. With no opposition, the two Republicans will serve extended terms that expire in November 2010, due to a change in the month village elections will be held. Werts received 125 votes and Avery garnered 118 votes on Tuesday, and a proposition to change village elections from March to November passed 113-61. Proponents for the change argued that the change will get more people out to vote, as village elections will coincide with the elections of Governor or President. The weather was a consideration. Village official elected in March 2005 (Mayor Peter Blandino, trustees John Bailey and Fran Mason, and Village Justice Dan Barrett, will have their terms extended from March 2009 to November 2010. The terms of Werts and Avery are extended from March 2011 to November 2012. Opponents of the referendum argued that the terms should have been shortened to accommodate that change, not extended.
