Health Fair Saturday in Newark St. Michael School in Newark hosts a free health fair for the community on March 24 from 9 to 1 in the school gym, with more than 50 vendors sharing their information and ideas on how the community can Live Well Together. The event features special guest Slim Goodbody presenting The Musical Health Show, designed to share the wonders of the human body with children to increase their sense of self-appreciation and self-respect. The day is packed with demonstrations and screenings from major health and safety organizations. Via Health of Wayne will be sponsoring cholesterol screenings (fasting is recommended for this), and the New York State Police will be sharing information on personal safety and car seat safety checks. Catholic Charities of Wayne County will have information on parenting. There will be blood pressure checks and chair massages, presentations on natural medicine and discussions about acupuncture. Visitors can learn about the benefits of natural products and the dangers of cell phone use. 'This health fair is an enjoyable and informative way to bring together the Newark community and address important health topics,' said Pauline DeCann, school principal. The health fair offers lunch take-outs of pulled pork or BBQ chicken available from 11 to 1 for $10 from Buster Burnham's Red Rooster. Lots of door prizes will be given away, including a grand prize of a weekend health retreat on Seneca Lake offered by Christian Natural Health. The second prize will be a stay at the Peppermint Cottage Bed and Breakfast. Catholic Schools of the Finger Lakes, made up of St. Francis-St. Stephen School (Geneva), St. Mary School (Canandaigua), St. Michael School (Newark), St. Michael School (Penn Yan), St. John Bosco School (Seneca Falls) and DeSales High School (Geneva) are deeply rooted in Catholic teaching and philosophy.
