Grandparents wanted

The Foster Grandparent Program of the Finger Lakes region has so much to offer. Foster Grandparents work with children, ranging from six months through high school age, in pre-school, in-school and after-school settings. They help them with reading, math, and how to get along skills. Teachers value their presence because of the un-hurried help a Foster Grandparent can provide to individual students.

Members report benefits such as increased energy, increased knowledge of their importance in the work they do with their grandchildren, and an increased number of friends! Other benefits include: a tax-free monthly stipend, mileage reimbursement for travel to and from their work sites, and recognition events throughout the year.

To become a Foster Grandparent you must be 60 or older, meet income criteria, complete an application, attend training.

There are work sites available at Ontario Head Start, Newark Elementary Schools, Roosevelt Children's Center, East Palmyra school.

The Foster Grandparent Program of the Finger Lakes region is sponsored by the Wayne County Action Program; call Debbie Farnsworth at 946.7530.
