State Grange legislative meeting in Newark

New York State Grange is coordinating a regional legislative conference for six neighboring counties around Wayne on Saturday, May 5, at Newark Grange Hall, Woodlane, off Grace Avenue.

The day's events start with a continental breakfast at 9:30 a.m.

Featured presenters will be Crystal Purcell, Field Representative of U.S. Congressman Michael Arcuri, Assemblyman Brian Kolb and Senator Michael Nozzolio. U.S. Congressman James Walsh has been invited, yet unconfirmed.

New York State Grange represents a membership of 10,000 members and advocates for many issues that affect upstate rural communities and family concerns. Among the top issues in 2007 for State Grange are the need for regional pricing of milk products for northeast U.S. and support for establishment of ethanol plants and incentives for the production of corn and other products used in ethanol. New York State Grange supports reform for the financing of our public school systems statewide.

A concern of Grange members is the support of legislation that protects private lands from being taken over by eminent domain for the sole purpose of greater economic revenue.

The legislative forum on May 5 is open to the public, according to Roger J. Halbert, Legislative Director of the State Grange. Questions may be directed to Alan Mallette at 331.4195.
