Burgess meets President Carter
Seth with Mr. & Mrs. Carter

While completing the last part of the Basic Officer Leadership Course at Fort Benning, Georgia, Seth Burgess has been exploring the state. On Sunday, May 6, he went to Maranatha Baptist Church in Plains where he attended the Sunday school class taught by former President Jimmy Carter. This photo shows Seth with Mr. & Mrs. Carter following the service.

Seth Burgess, of Newark, was commissioned Friday, March 2, 2007 as a United States Army Officer. He entered service in the grade of Second Lieutenant and will fulfill an eight-year commitment.

Burgess, son of Gil and Holly Burgess of 107 Grant Street, graduated last November from Rochester Institute of Technology and was commissioned through the schools distinguished Army Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) program. The commissioning ceremony was held on campus in the Fireside Lounge of RITs Student Alumni Union.

Lieutenant Burgess is currently at Fort Benning, Georgia for Basic Officer Leadership Course II (BOLC II) where he is training with other new lieutenants in tasks typical of the Contemporary Operating Environment (COE). Burgess will attend Military Intelligence School at Fort Huachuca, Arizona from May 22  to September 6 and afterwards report to his new unit in Syracuse HHC 427th Brigade Support Battalion (BSB) of the New York Army National Guard (NY-ARNG).
