Newark vote tied; election re-scheduled
Every vote counts; 709 votes were cast in favor of the budget, and 404 votes against. 680 voted for the bus purchase, 352 against. Current School Board President Roberta Colacino was elected to another three-year term with 727 votes. Tied for the second board position are incumbent Jack Dubler and Teresa Hurley, both winning 677 votes. (This is not the first time there's been a tie. Three years ago the two top contenders received 911 votes each and were elected.) The totals announced Tuesday evening included absentee ballots. The board voted to hold another election and established a policy in case of another tie. A second vote will be held Tuesday, JUNE 26 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the High School for voters to choose between Dubler and Hurley. Absentee ballots will be available.
