Wolcott youth receives award The Norman Howard School, an independent day school for students with learning disabilities in grades 5 through 12, has awarded Joseph Banas, a tenth-grader and Wolcott resident with the Norman Howard School Award of Personal Growth, and McKenzie D'Angelo, a twelfth-grader and resident of Pavillion, with the Richard Lilly Memorial Award. They received the awards last Wednesday night at the school's 6th Annual Celebration of Success event. Banas received the Norman Howard School Award of Personal Growth because he has shown significant development and growth, primarily in social and emotional areas, but not excluding academic growth. Ms. D'Angelo received the Richard Lilly Memorial Award for her natural leadership, and because her humor and humanity has inspired a sense of community and fellowship both in and out of school. The Richard Lilly Memorial Award was established in memory of Richard Lilly who lived with moderately severe dyslexia, yet managed to display his natural leadership qualities with a delightful sense of humor and a deep concern for people. In its 26th year, the Norman Howard School provides individualized instruction to students with learning disabilities. The main focus of the program is to assist students in reaching their potential by combining learning strategies and remediation with an individualized learning plan in a supportive environment.
