Veterans Day open house
at Newark Legion Post

August Mauer American Legion Post 286 will be a busy place Sunday, November 11. The day begins with the Veterans Day parade that will form between the Post and the VFW on East Union Street, at 10:30 a.m.

The parade will proceed to Central Park, where ceremonies will be held to honor all veterans. In case of inclement weather, the ceremonies will be held at Post 286. Immediately following the ceremonies, an open house will be held at Post 286.

In addition to the Post's open house, American Legion Auxiliary unit 286 will also be holding a bake sale there.

During the open house, the Auxiliary will be holding a membership drive. Are you the spouse, mother, grandmother, daughter, granddaughter or sister of a member of the American Legion?

If so, bring that Legionnaire's DD-214 with you (military service discharge papers) and sign up for membership in the Auxiliary. Step relatives are eligible, too. Signing up that day will get you a $5 gas card, plus all the other benefits that Auxiliary membership offers.
