Veterans parade,
ceremony Sunday in
Newark

The Newark Veterans Council has planned this year's Veteran's Day Ceremonies for November 11, at Central Park.

Todd Howard, Commander of the Newark VFW Post #2883 asked for the community's understanding and respect of the Sunday schedule.

The eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month officially commemorates the armistice signed between the Allies and Germany in 1918 for the cessation of hostilities on the Western front. November 11 was designated a national holiday to honor those killed in W.W.I. It was later changed to Veteran's Day to honor Veterans and all those killed in war.

This year's parade will form at the VFW Post at 10:30 a.m. and march to Central Park by way of East Union and South Main St. Lt. Col. Fred J. Pirelli recognize the Veterans on arrival, with the ceremonial blowing of the village air horn at 11 a.m.

Todd Howard will sing the National Anthem, followed by a Salute to the War Dead and the presenting of arms by the Color Guard. Buglers will play Taps.

Lt. Col. Pirelli will introduce the reading of 'In Flanders Fields,' followed by speeches by VFW Commander Todd Howard and American legion Commander David Quagliata.
