Salute to 85 years for August Mauer Auxiliary Unit November 3, the August Mauer Auxiliary Unit 286 celebrated the 85th anniversary of that Unit's charter. Seventy people attended a dinner at August Mauer American Legion Post 286 in Newark. Bonnie Sonneville, 7th District Auxiliary President, and Katherine Wood-Bacher, 7th District Vice President, were both present for the celebration. Other distinguished guests were David Quagliata, Commander of Post 286, Daniel Quagliata, S.A.L. Squadron 286 Commander, and Dolores Wagemaker, Gold Star Mother. Artifacts and pictures of Unit 286 from the 1920's until the present were displayed. More than 1000 poppies were used in the decorations. Charlotte Crumb, a 78-year member of the Unit, sent a letter from Florida. She explained that her mother and her aunt were the charter members of Unit 286 in 1922, deciding that after Charlotte's father, a WWI veteran joined the American Legion, it was time for an Auxiliary unit to be formed.
