Gala evening for Hospital Golden Anniversary Mark Clement, President of ViaHealth, and Ginny Ryan from WHAM 13 News offered a toast in celebration of the Newark-Wayne Hospital's 50th Anniversary of providing health care to people in Wayne and surrounding counties.
Congressman James T. Walsh and Assemblyman Robert C. Oaks, honorary co-chairs of the event, offered their personal congratulations to friends of the Hospital who were in attendance. Congressman Walsh presented Annette Leahy, President of ViaHealth of Wayne, with a Congressional Proclamation, noting the anniversary. Walsh announced his sponsorship of a $750,000 grant in support of the Hospital and DeMay Living Center. The grant is currently in Congress, awaiting the approval process.
The Foundation announced a new honor, the Luminary Award. The award will honor individuals, families and foundations whose significant support is reflected in the growth and excellence at Newark-Wayne Community Hospital and DeMay Living Center. This award, which created by artist Wayne Williams, was presented to Gary DeMay and Janis DeMay-Connor, son and daughter of Karl and the late Mildred DeMay; also to Sarah Gaffin on behalf of James and Margaret Beale, and the Stuart Family Foundation. Sponsors of the event included: NurseFinders, Marshall Farms Group, Wayne Medical Group, Community Bank, Greater Rochester IPA, Lyons National Bank, Ultralife, IEC, Vande Architects, Cleason Concrete, Mike Barnard, Alpco Recycling, Fingerlakes Construction, Sinicropi and Healy, Townsend Oil, Lyons Veterinary and Bob Sloan of Nothnagle Realtors.
Ginny Ryan, the Mistress of Ceremony, is shown with Tonya Taylor, ViaHealth of Wayne Foundation Director, and her husband, Mark Freeman; and seated, Dr. Dong-Gi and Ae-Soon Hong. The Foundations mission is to support the healthcare needs of the citizens of Wayne County and the surrounding area through financial support and advocacy for Newark-Wayne Community Hospital and DeMay Living Center. Newark-Wayne Community Hospital is the only hospital in Wayne County. DeMay Living, 180-bed skilled nursing facility is located on the Newark-Wayne Campus.

The Gala, which itself raised more than $50,000 for the ViaHealth of Wayne Foundation, was held on November 17 at Carey Lake in Walworth.
