Marbletown School open house Oct. 6 If you've ever wondered how students fared in a one-room school, with one teacher for many grades, and heat from a wood stove - with no computers, no cafeteria for lunch, no busses to transport them- then come and visit the Marbletown Schoolhouse on the corner of Miller and Marbletown Roads, Saturdays, October 6 and 20, from 1-3 p.m. for a special experience. Marbletown School was built in 1876, the year of the nation's Centennial. It is a beautiful brick building that has seen many changes during its busy life, closing in 1947 when the Newark/Arcadia school system was centralized. Inside the school, most of the furnishings are original including the wooden desks, pull-down maps, and ink stains on the floor. The school house is maintained by the Newark-Arcadia Historical Society, which invites you to these Fall Open Afternoons.
