Reds defeat Lions 35-12

The Newark High School football team celebrated Senior Night with a 35-12 win over the Lyons Lions on October 5.

The Reds solidified their chances for a first-round Class A Sectional game. David Lee Tack completed five of eight passes for 139 yards and two touchdowns.

Newark improved to 4-2 and will play at Brighton Friday.

Ollie Smith caught two balls for 42 yards and a touchdown and rushed 13 times for 74 yards and two more scores. Coach Mike McGavisk is pictured with the seniors, who were honored at halftime. Those honored were John Mazur, Tom Wilson, Mgr. Shane Collins, Josh Sebring, Tom Parcero, Matt Clemons, Steven Lessord, Kyle Bree, Michael Bogan, Scott Tilburg, Matt Nowak, Schuyler DePauw, Chris Gonzalez, Steven Turner, Dillon Jinks. Cheerleader Aliah Snuggs was also honored.

Tack opened the scoring on a 25-yard keeper. Kyle Moore's 24-yard reception and Tack's two-point run gave the Reds a 28-0 lead. For the defense, John Gonzalez picked off two Lyons passes.

Brandon Wright and Markis Guy scored fourth-quarter touchdowns for the 3-3 Lions.
