Retired teachers meet at Sodus Bay Heights The Wayne County Retired Teachers' Association held their Fall Luncheon at Sodus Bay Heights Golf Club on October 2. They socialized while listening to music played by retirees Don Hunt on the keyboard and Bob Wadsworth on the violin. President Ellen Barnes welcomed Wayne County retirees and several guests from the Central Western Zone of New York State Retired Teachers. Recognition was given to six past presidents in attendance. They were, Bob Wadsworth, Earl Buchanan, Fred Durbin, Carol Ramsey, John Hogan, and John Ramsey. Irene Bierer and Jane Buell presented a program on the Wallington Cobblestone Schoolhouse. Dressed in period costumes they gave a history of the schoolhouse, and told about what it was like to be a teacher as well as a student at the Wallington Schoolhouse in the nineteenth century. All were encouraged to visit the schoolhouse. The program was enjoyed by all. The business meeting included an update on federal and state legislation by Bill Lesniak and Elaine Leasure respectively. John Hogan and Carol Lord, co chair for the 2007 New York State Convention shared an update on what is planned and asked for help from members. President Barnes presented the Epke-Meagher Award to Kathy Grandjean of Williamson. Lunch was followed by entertainment by the Sodus Central Select Choir under the direction of Lisa Miller.
