Missing Sodus

Fireworks in September ... I saw them!

Oscar wasn't terribly thrilled with them, of course. They were to celebrate the end of a great summer or the beginning of fall, and they were fun to watch.

We had gotten to the park after going the wrong way down the road (I should have just followed the other cars!). We got our nice spot to sit in the car to watch and just our luck a huge van parked next to us so we had to get out and watch them. There was a bonfire as well. This reminded me of when they had them in the fall by Sodus School and Mrs. Toner told stories to make it all the more fun.

We go back to visit Sodus Point quite a bit now that we have moved. We missed it more then we had realized. But it is very nice to be back.

At the Sodus Free Library, there are many events to check out while you are checking out all those great books and movies.

  • October 15, 22, 29 - Preschool Story Hour, 10:30-11:30 a.m.
  • October 16 - Books-Sandwiched-In (Shirley Patchett, 100 Years of the Sodus Free Library), noon
  • October 16 - Friends of the Sodus Free Library meeting, 1:30 p.m.
  • October 24 - Closed for OWWL server migration
  • October 25-26 - Closed for OWWL server migration
  • October 31 - Halloween - Closing at 5 p.m.

Alasa Farms is a fun place to visit. The whole day can be taken up doing fun things such as picking apples, touring the farm and visiting the animals, going on a fossil tour, hayrides and special events. Don't forget the camera.

Over 20,000 people a year go on the hayrides in Williamson. The hayride takes you deep into the dark woods on winding scary roads. Get your tickets at Wegmans. Follow the signs on l04 in Williamson. Then afterwards to help you get your nerves back have a glass of warm cider to calm down.

The Apple Shed outside of Fairville has daytime hayrides and then of course you want to purchase apples, cider, pies, cheese, honey, donuts and more - to celebrate!

Here's an apple recipe.

Apple Salad

2 cups diced apples
1 cup diced celery
1 cup raisins
1 cup nuts
2 tablespoons salad dressing or mayonnaise
1 tablespoon orange juice

Mix orange juice with salad dressing or mayonnaise. Toss apples, celery, raisins and nuts with the dressing mixture.

Here are Fresh Ideas for Apples

  • Serve slices of apple topped with peanut butter or cheese. Add chopped apples to pancake batter. Add chopped apples to hot or cold cereal.
  • Store your apples at room temperature for a few days or in the refrigerator for several weeks.

Whatever you'll be doing this weekend, have a great time with your family and friends. This is a fun time to make fall traditions with your children as well as lots of memories.
