Fire at Widewaters
by John Zornow

At about midnight Friday evening a NYS Trooper on patrol spotted flames coming from a house at 5247 Route 31 West, opposite Concord Ford.

The Newark and Marbletown Fire Departments responded, and found the structure, owned and occupied by Sandy May, fully engulfed. Ms. May was helped to safety and was given temporary shelter by Wayne County Red Cross.

The Port Gibson 'Fast Team' assisted Newark in extinguishing the blaze and Lyons Fire Department stood by. Courier Gazette reporter John Zornow went to the scene early Saturday morning to take photos and found that the blaze had re-kindled. Firefighters were again summoned to the scene to put out the blaze.
