FL Symphony concert Oct. 20 in Newark

The Finger Lakes Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Conductor Craig S. Evans, presents an Autumn Concert on Saturday, Oct. 20. Downbeat is 7 p.m. in the Newark Middle School auditorium.

A highlight of the concert is the orchestra's Principal Flutist, Jeanine M. Beahan, performing Flute Concerto No. 1 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

The Orchestra will also perform Symphony No. 8 in G major by Antonin Dvorak; Serenade for Winds, op. 7 by Richard Strauss; and Overture, 'Der Freischtz' by Carl Maria von Weber. Beahan has been FLSO principal flutist for 23 years. This will be her fourth solo performance with the orchestra.

Beahan has been a member of the Livonia Central School District music faculty since 1995, and the Hochstein Music School faculty since 1992.

Concert tickets are available at the door: $7 for adults, $5 for seniors, and children under 12 free.

Newark musicians in the orchestra are music teacher Rebecca Polvino, and high school students Alex Schwind and Willie Clark.

The next performance by the Finger Lakes Symphony Orchestra will be The Nutcracker with the Ithaca Ballet Company, Sunday, Nov. 25, at 3 p.m., Midlakes High School Auditorium in Phelps.
