Barber Scholarship 20th anniversary For 20 years, African-American graduates from Wayne County schools have been honored for their academic achievements and contributions to their schools and communities through awards from the Timothy L. Barber Memorial Scholarship Fund. The fund assists selected graduates with a scholarship to help with expenses at college. The scholarship fund was created by Wayne Action for Racial Equality (W.A.R.E.) to honor Tim's dedication to improving race relations in his high school and his community. His vision was a model for us all: a world in which all young people would have the opportunity to achieve their highest goals. Since its formation the fund has given scholarships totaling over $20,000 to over 40 students from across the County. On November 3, Blossom View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center will host a fundraising dinner in their beautiful, newly remodeled dining room. A Southern low-country buffet is being served. Tickets are available for $20 by calling Denise DeValk at 483.4256. Past recipients of the scholarship will be honored; people attending will have opportunities to bid on auction items. On the dinner committee are Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Barber, Sr., Joyce Donovan, Shirley Finley, John L. Ghertner, M.D., Pastor Wayne Kittleberger, Rev. Ernest Walker, Jr., and Tom Wetherell. Copyright
