'Necropolis Rising' photo exhibit at Wayne Museum

The Museum of Wayne County History is featuring photographs from High School Students in their new exhibit, 'Necropolis Rising: Cemeteries of Wayne County' in their changing exhibit room.

Twenty-seven students participated from five school districts, sending in more than 80 framed and matted photographs.

Executive Director Larry Ann Evans said, 'You know, because we have been in the conflict overseas, I was wondering if all the photographs would come in as stark and solemn images. There is a wide range of emotions felt when seeing these images of our cemeteries, a wide range of emotions and the titles that the students gave to their photographs are more often than not, thought provoking.'

The students photographed in color, black and white, some are altered artistically or electronically - others not.

Attendees are welcomed in the Visitors Center with a presentation of photographs by Loreen Jorgensen, projected on the wall.

Evans offers thanks to the school districts, Art and Photography teachers of Clyde-Savannah, Lyons, Newark, North Rose-Wolcott and Sodus for making the exhibit a success.

Necropolis Rising: Cemeteries of Wayne County can be viewed at the Museum of Wayne County History until November 21.

The Museum is located at 21 Butternut Street, Lyons. Hours are Tuesday to Friday, 10 to 4 and Saturday from 10 to 2:30.
