Country Gold Reunion Tuesday in Palmyra

When they reopened their retail store and music teaching studio in 2000, Ray and Suzanne Braselton, owners of Braselton's Music Concert Hall, 3329 Route 21, Marion, noticed a lack of bands in the Rochester area.

They organized B&Bs Music Showcase Performers Association, an association helping professional and amateur musicians share their talent, ideas, and equipment.

The group provides networking opportunities for members and invites guest speakers to share experiences and information. B&Bs also makes a web page available to members who want to promote their music, biographies, gig scheduling, etc.

A 50-Year Country Gold Reunion is being planned for October 30 at the Palmyra Moose for dinner and viewing of B&Bs 'Music Showcase Presents' television show.

Tickets and information are available by calling 926.4788 or see www.bandbmusicshowcase.com

Members gathered in October at Braselton's Music Concert Hall and met with Walter 'Sonny' Karoll Smolinski, former leader of the popular area band Misty Blues. He spoke about his experiences when trying to break into the recording business in Nashville, TN and warned members of some of the pitfalls awaiting those uninformed performers hoping to make it big in the business.

He related his experiences with guitarist Tom Bresch, opening for Ernest Tubb at Beckens Park in the 1970s and playing area locations such as The Red Rooster, Gaslight Lounge, Zappia's Party House and Three Rivers.

The group includes Beth Webb of Marion, blues and jazz keyboard artist and composer; Newark musician Bill Owen, John Chamberlin - guitarist from Newark, Newark vocalist Angel Porata, Greg Deutschbein of Orbit Underground, and others. Porata, formerly with classic rock band Bad Seed, is expanding into the country music field.
