Wolcott mayor speaks to Rotarians Wolcott Mayor John Monson presented a program at the Wolcott Rotary Club. Rotary meets each Wednesday noon at the Elks Lodge and visitors are welcome to attend. Monson suggested many projects as part of his vision to lift up the Village to improve the quality of life for all and to make the Village more attractive as a destination for tourists. One of the projects concerns hydro-generation at Wolcott Falls. It is hoped that electricity will be generated from this project to service the village and to reduce energy costs to its citizens. He talked about cleaning up the Mill Pond, providing easier public access, installing a walking bridge at Wolcott Falls Park and perhaps installing a Zip Line as a tourist attraction and to provide revenues. Grant money may be available for these projects and that grants are being actively pursued for other projects also. Other projects are removal of the overpass on Lake Avenue, extending gas lines to the small areas that are not now served, building a replica log cabin like one of the original four in Wolcott, and making Doctor Chan's Garden (which will be dedicated on Saturday, November 10), more attractive to the citizens. He said that grant money is expected soon for storm sewer repairs. Monson is surveying empty buildings in the village and will draw up a plan to seek out selected businesses to invite them to consider locating in Wolcott. Shared services with surrounding communities, and maybe the schools also, will provide more efficiencies for services and equipment. This is being looked into with renewed energy. Monson enjoys living in Wolcott, where the spirit of volunteerism is so high. He said many in surrounding communities identify with Wolcott and most projects under way and contemplated are being done at little or no taxpayer expense. He said emphatically that he has no interest in raising taxes and that much progress can be made without doing so. Rotary President Jim Weiler thanked Mayor Monson for sharing his ideas with the Rotary Club and pledged continued cooperation for common community benefit. Copyright
