Miranda recognized by school district

Jim Miranda & Henry HannProfessional photographer Jim Miranda loves taking pictures and says his talent has enabled him to make a difference in the lives of others. For more than 20 years, he's voluntarily taken pictures at most Newark School District sporting events and other activities and has graciously allowed his pictures to be used in the NHS yearbook, the school district website and on Cable Channel 6.

September 4, he was recognized for his generosity as he became the recipient of the 2007 Friend of Education award. Miranda is pictured with Interim Superintendent Henry Hann.

Hann said that for many years, Miranda has made himself available to photograph Newark students at countless events. He then donates much of his work to the NHS yearbook, district website, Cable Channel 6 and more.

'He truly embodies the spirit of this award and our school district is very grateful to have such a friend as Jim Miranda,' Hann said.

A 1975 NHS graduate, Miranda, who has worked as a professional photographer for more than 20 years, is also a sports photographer for the Newark Courier-Gazette and other area venues. After he received the award Tuesday morning, Miranda, who was totally surprised, said he was truly humbled.

He thought he'd just been invited by Hann to come to the morning assembly of the Superintendent's Conference Days to take photographs.

'I love sports photography - photography in general and I feel very humbled to receive this award,' he said. 'You always want to make a difference in life, and I think I've been able to do it through photography.'
