Senate candidate walks the District Democrat Paloma Capanna is walking more than 150 miles across N.Y.S. Senate District 54, from Webster (Monroe County) to Lansing (Tompkins County). She started September 15 and will end the trek Saturday.
The theme for her walk is 'Do You have a Dollar for Democracy?' All citizens were invited to walk along with Capanna as she passed through towns and villages. County Election Commisioner,and Lyons Democrat Jack Bailey was serving up hot dogs and lemonade to visitors who came to greet Capana. Walking with her are Rebecca Elgie and Bernie Fetterly, Health Care Reform Advocates, from the Ithaca area. 'This is a campaign kick-off about empowerment,' said Capanna, 'This is a Democracy, and The People are the majority. People can change the way the N.Y.S. Senate is run just by getting out and getting involved.' The 54th Senate District includes Webster (Monroe County), Wayne County, Seneca County, most of Cayuga County, the northern and eastern portions of Ontario County, and Lansing (Tompkins County). Capanna, 40, is a self-employed family law attorney, who is committed to helping children in poverty. In 2006, she ran for Congress, yielding to Democrat Dan Maffei. For more information, She lives in Webster with her husband, Peter, and her stepson, Sam. Her GOP opponent is incumbent Mike Nozzolio. The Wayne County Democrats will have a meeting Tuesday, Sept. 25 at 7 p.m. at the Old County Courthouse, Church Street in Lyons.
