Celtic ritual at Angel Heart Chapel Mabon is a harvest of prosperity, when the ancient Celts celebrated the bounty of the fields. This Celtic ritual will be held at Angel Heart Chapel on Sunday, Sept. 23 at 7 p.m. A donation to the church is requested. The church is located in Cannery Row Mall, behind Newark Mark's Pizzeria. To honor the spirit of this harvest, create a prosperity and protection wreath to hang on your front door, lending 'a little magic' to your life. Grapevines are a traditional symbol of abundance, and if you have a grape arbor in your back yard or know where wild grapes grow - making a grapevine wreath is simple enough. Grapevines represent prosperity, hazel nuts bring protection and wisdom, so they would be ideal to add to your wreath or to have around your home. The hazel tree is one of the seven Chieftain trees venerated by the ancient Celts. It was protected under the Brehon Law of Ireland, which is the oldest and most extensive legal system in Europe. The tree has a long association with moving water and wells. It was regarded by the Druids as a tree of wisdom, and its nuts were believed to contain all the knowledge in the world, past and future. You may purchase hazelnuts at the produce market. Dried corn husks, bittersweet berries and milkweed pods will also brighten your wreath. A walk along a country road can bring all sorts of natural beauty to this wreath. The symbolism of the grapevines (prosperity) shaped into a circle and decorated with hazelnuts (luck, wisdom and protection) creates a powerful charm to protect you during the year.
