Missing Sodus
By Melissa White

Oh, my gosh. We have moved into the new place, which is great, but now we are surrounded by boxes. They would make a great fort if I were just a few years younger, but, since I am older THEY ARE DRIVING ME NUTS! I want to have everything taken care of a week ago.

From the Sodus Library:

September 24 - Preschool Story Hour, 10:30-11:30 a.m.

Don't wave good-bye to Ralph and Betty Everdyke yet. They will not be going south for a little while. He can enjoy the leaves changing color and getting fresh apples.

Speaking of people going to Florida, do you ever wonder what happens to the people that go down a few times and, unlike Ralph and Betty, just can't be torn away and stay there? Such is the case for Ralph Cosier:

I am an old friend of Eileen Hooper. ( I'm sure you remember her from Sodus and Jackie Katz from Wolcott. I found your blog looking for info on Wheelock Rides. My name is Ralph Cosier and I am from Penfield NY. I now live in Plant City FL and I work at the Port of Tampa. Every third Wednesday there is a meeting of the Lakeland chapter of the Goldwing road riders association at Barnhill's buffet on south Florida Ave in Lakeland .

This is at least what happened to Ralph Cosier. He loved the south so much that he stayed, got a job and is still having fun. ( I never expected to be found in that way, to be honest, but cool.) Are you ready to be scared! Mark your calendars:

Well, the Haunted Hayrides of Greater Rochester would like the opportunity to help you with that. On Friday September 28 and Saturday 29, The Haunted Hayrides of Rochester come back to scare and amaze you at just how much they can scare you.

They say:

This annual event takes you down a desolate road, winding through eerie acres of apple orchards into the deep, dark woods. Attracting over 20,000 people each year, this frightful event will keep you on the edge of your seat and screaming. Get your tickets in advance at any Wegmans. The rides are in Williamson. Follow signs from Route 104.

We braved it years ago. It was with a first grade field trip so it was in broad daylight, but I could see how it could be scary if it was dark out.

Sounds like good clean, fall fun.

If you aren't scared enough, Alasa Farms has a scary event weekend in store for you as well.

Saturday September the 29 and Sunday September 30 is the Alasa Community Camping Weekend. Rustic camping experience with campfire, chuckwagon dinner and haunted woods walk included. Hiking, trail riding, farm tours, apple picking, Karaoke, campfire stories and local lore. Accommodations for tents, campers and horse trailers. Alasa Farms, 6450 Shaker Rd., Alton.

Sounds like another fun weekend. A music fest one week and now, Karaoke and campfire stories. We all know those can be pretty spooky.

Before you spend a weekend of being scared, this weekend the Apple Shed in Fairville is having their pie weekend with the fruit pie baking contest. You can take a great pie home and, if you like contests, you can be a part of the pie eating contest at 2.

For now, there are no pies in my day, just more moving, so I am on my way back to the old place to do some more laundry, get things in order and hope I have room in the new place for all of them when they get here.

Have a great weekend. There are a lot of fun things to do at the greenhouses and nurseries. Don't forget, fall is the time to plant your bulbs for the spring

Enjoy each other's company and check out some fun books to share at the libraries.

Do you have a special pie recipe you'd like to share? Or maybe a fun fall tradition? Please send them along. It'll be fun.
