Strange, macabre happenings in Lyons

The Wayne County Historical Society's Museum will be holding some other-worldly, strange and amazing events in September and October.

Haunted History Ghost Walks continue every Saturday through September and October. Creator of the Ghost Walks and paranormal investigator, Mason Winfield and his team of researchers dug into the past of Lyons and compiled a 90-minute, mile-long tour of haunted village sites.

The Ghost Walks are unique and company founder Winfield's approach brings out layers of meaning to architecture, history, prehistory, and even geology that most people never thought could be connected to supernatural reports. Informative, entertaining, rich and multidisciplinary, Ghost Walks are inspired by a broad and unbiased understanding of the field of the paranormal and brewed with good old-fashioned storytelling.

Ghost Walks take place rain or shine, and walkers take part at their own risk. Tours begin on the steps of the Wayne County Courthouse across from the park in Lyons every Saturday in September and October at 3 p.m. Cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children, ages 7-11.

The Museum's Haunted Jail takes place again this year and scarier than ever! On Friday, October 26, Saturday, October 27 from 6 to 9 p.m., the old jail cellblocks at the Museum of Wayne County History will be transformed into a frightening trail of terror. The old jails, where Rolling Hills Ghost Hunters recorded other worldly voices, are open to those who dare cross their thresholds.

'I'll watch the people go into the cells, I'm not going in myself!' said Executive Director of the Museum Larry Ann Evans who went on to say that they are just plain scary every day of the year, 'I don't think my heart could handle them at night!'

Museum Manager, Mary Erle, laughed and said that she had a special place for Evans.

Cider and donuts will be available to calm the spirits of the living if they make it through the cells. Cost for the terror-filled stroll through the haunted jail is $3 per person. Visitors are encouraged to bring friends - to clasp onto!

In conjunction with these unnerving events is the new high school photo exhibit in the Changing Exhibition Room, Necropolis Rising: Cemeteries of Wayne County.

The Exhibit preview party will be October 11, at 7 p.m. The exhibit, conceptualized to see what this generation of students, attending school during some difficult world conflicts, would picture when they visit and photograph the cemeteries.
