Bereavement Support for children, youth

Our community has seen more than its share of death this past year - expected and unexpected losses. Many young people have lost family members, friends, neighbors, babysitters, and classmates. Young people grieve deeply. Yes, they grieve differently in some ways than do adults, but they do grieve and mourn their losses.

Stepping Stones is a bereavement support group for children and youth who have lost a loved one, and for the adults who care for them - Trained adults who share a passion for helping grieving children and youth facilitate the program. The young people meet in groups with others of their own age bracket. While they are gathered in one place, the adults who care for them meet in a nearby room for their own support discussion. There is no charge for this program.

The eight-week program is offered by Lifetime Care as one of its bereavement service offerings to the community. This non-denominational, free program will be held at St. Michael School, Newark, on Wednesdays between Sept. 26 and Nov. 14, from 6:45 to 8 p.m. Pre-registration is required.

Call Roseanne W. Critchlow, Bereavement Services Coordinator, at 315.331.7990 or 800.562.1650 to register.
