Catholic Family Center had a dedication ceremony Friday at the campus at 110 South Clinton Street, on Sept. 21. Carolyn Portanova, CEO of Catholic Family Center, welcomed everyone and gave special recognition to Senator Michael Nozzolio, whom she called a 'friend of Catholic Family Center.' He helped secure $250,000 in 2006 and 2007 to support Catholic Family Center's Family Investment Initiative. She invited Mary Hannick, 98, lifetime honorary board member to speak. Mary Hannick is pictured with Father Mark Brewer, of St. Michael's Church, who read a prayer of dedication and blessed the grounds and the attendees with Holy Water. Hannick read poems, told stories, sang two short songs. She was with the Red Cross during World War II, serving in France and Germany. She attended the Nuremberg Trial. CFC's Restart Substance Abuse Services Residential Programs celebrated the dedication of the new Hannick Hall Campus, for women in recovery. Serving more than 50 women annually, Hannick Hall recently celebrated the birth of six drug-free babies and 12 family reunifications, saving the community hundreds of thousands of dollars in neo-natal intensive care and foster care. Portanova explained that a healthy drug-free baby is a blessing to many, and the baby's good health saves the taxpayers more than $100,000 in crisis neonatal care at a hospital. The program at Hannick Hall opened in 1993 and has served more than 700 women from all across New York. There were more than 60 people at the ceremony; they later toured the new building at 407 East Union and enjoyed refreshments in the older hall. Copyright
