'Vintage Voices' cast is announced

Actors who will showcase Lyons history and the roles they will be playing in the Lyons Rural Cemetery during the September 29 production, Vintage Voices are:

  • Arthur Renzi, a boy who drowned after falling through the ice on the Race (played by George Dobbins);
  • Philip Sevalen, the candy store owner who still can describe his marble soda fountain (played by Randy Mitchell);
  • George P. Price, the only veteran drafted in the Civil War (played by Eric Lewis);
  • Sgt. Frederick Ginder, a soldier who helped track down the Apache Kid (played by Tery VanStean);
  • Mary Burnett, the mother-in-law of the owner of Congress Hall (played by Jessica Edgington);
  • and Michael Gleichman, a man who drowned on his way home from the doctor's office (played by Robert MacDuffie).

Others share early Lyons history.

An outraged Mrs. Charles Gucker tells of village employees shooting at her family pet and almost hitting her houseguest (played by Patty Youngman);

Isabel Foster remembers the organization of the Hocroft Golf Club (played by Jean Stoep),

Albertine Mirick Betts recalls her husband's fight for obtaining clean village water (played by Val VanStean),

and Georgie Merz recounts his memorable tale of finding a dead body (played by Matt Killips).

Beginning at 6 p.m., guided tours will leave every 15 minutes, with the last performance beginning at 6:45. Free valet parking will be available.

Tickets may be purchased at Dobbins Drug Store on 52 William Street, or by calling Sharon Lubitow (946.3367). Tickets are $5 for adults and free for children under twelve who are accompanied by an adult. The size of the groups will be limited.

Proceeds of the event will be donated to the Lyons Heritage Society for their work in preserving and presenting the history of Lyons.
