The TULIPS group of the Red Hatters (photo) spent a delightful afternoon together Sept. 22 in Geneva. The day was balmy and we rode together in a limousine to Belhurst Castle in Geneva for a buffet luncheon. Conversations were about plans for coming events. The October experience will be lunch, of course, and then a foliage train ride leaving from the Shortsville Depot. We toured the Castle gift shop and enjoyed the lovely grounds and the view of Seneca Lake.

red hat societyOCTOBER 3, 1914 - In order to make room for the new bank building, it was necessary to remove the trees on the west side of the lot. They had been there over 50 years. It is always a feeling of regret when we watch a large tree felled.

MacKenzie Reiss presented special music at the morning service on September 23, at the Second Reformed Church, singing 'Completely.'

A baby! Matt and Erica VanCamp announce the birth of Rebecca Grace on September 17. Her birth weight was 7 lbs. 9 oz. Proud grandparents are Carl and Elaine VanCamp.

A baby! Paul and Jody Bender announce the arrival of grandson Nathaniel Thomas Kearns. Nathaniel is also the grandson of Shawn and Amy Kearns. Great-grandmothers are Carol Kearns of Marion and Betty Baker of Horseheads. Nathaniel's birth weight was 7 lbs. 5 oz. He was welcomed home by his big brother Colby.

Jayne DePoint of Statesville, North Carolina, was in town to visit her father, Jacob, and other family members.

News from the American Legion Auxiliary: A scholarship of $150 was awarded to Terri Lyn Bove.

Dick Murphy has been a patient at the Rochester General Hospital.

LET IT SNOW! Gord finally purchased a new snow blower. He is patiently waiting for the weather to turn blustery.

I enjoyed a phone call from David Santelli in Newark. We talked about recipes and the fact that I attended the District #14 country school with his mother, Elizabeth.

Howard and Ida Boise recently returned from attending the 43rd Annual Reunion of the 14th Armored Division held in Springfield, Illinois. They also spent five days in Branson, Missouri.

The candidate for Miss Poppy for the year 2007 was Sophia Cordova. She is the granddaughter of Cheryl Weeks and great-granddaughter of Pearl Weeks.

The Girl's State candidate was Erica Kuhn of Cory Corners Road. The program was held in Brockport.

Remember: the Homestyle Turkey Supper this evening, September 28, sponsored by the Eastern Star and held at the Masonic Temple. Take-outs will be available.

Irish immigrant Benjamin Moore and his brother, William, started selling whitewash in Brooklyn in 1883. Today the company operates eight labs in New Jersey, creating more than 3500 paint colors.

OCTOBER 1, 1942 - Rubber work boots and shoes have been added to the War Ration list. Sales will be frozen Tuesday night.
