Seamanship course offered in Newark

Red Jacket Squadron of United States Power Squadrons (USPS), the premiere non-profit boating organization, is providing a comprehensive Boating-Plotting-Seamanship course to the public.

Subjects that will be covered are emergencies aboard, aids to navigation, weather, nautical etiquette and customs, plotting a course, anchoring, marlinspike, boat handling, marine radio, speed-time-distance calculations and many other subjects.

The course will be held in the evenings in Newark, starting on April 14, at 7, and will progress over several weeks. The volunteer instructors are experienced boaters and teachers. Call for times and fees.

To learn more, call Chris Tertinek at 585.746.5266, or 315.483.4341, John Stiles at 331.1398.

Upon successful completion a NYS-accepted Boating Safety Certificate will be immediately issued and an additional certificate will be issued by USPS. This certificate can be used to reduce your boat insurance with many of the underwriters.

USPS is a non-profit boating organization of 45,000 members dedicated to boating education.
